You
Can Do It! Toramaru's Dosukoi Journey.

Can
Kenshin win without a sword? You bet.
|
Passing
through a busy street, Kenshin, carrying two buckets
of tofu hanging on a large pole on his shoulders,
Kaoru, and Yahiko encounter the famous national champion,
an Ozeki, Senryo Yama and company. An old man asks
Senryo Yama if can carry his grandson, hoping he'll
be strong like the champ himself one day. The Ozeki
does so, but in the process, the child's pinwheel
falls down. From behind, another sumo runs out of
a restaurant, escaping from paying his bill. The freeloading
sumo is named Toramaru. He just so happens to bump
into his old friend, Senryo Yama. The two had been
training at the same school, but for reasons unexplained,
Senryo Yama hits Toramaru. The sumo wrestler is hit
hard and looks as though he is about to smash the
child's pinwheel, but somehow avoids it by only a
few inches. Immediately, Senryo Yama's gang begins
stomping on Toramaru. Kaoru can't stand for such an
act, so she gets herself involved in the situation
by standing up for Toramaru. For that, she is slapped
by one of the men. Yahiko forces Kenshin into the
brawl. With ease, Kenshin takes down all of Senryo
Yama's men with just his pole and buckets. Once the
men are all down, Toramaru runs off. Senryo Yama doesn't
wish to make much more of a scene, so he walks away
from the fight for now.

Tae had witnessed everything,
so she takes Kenshin, Kaoru, and Yahiko to the Akabeko
to get things sorted out. Toramaru had runaway from
the same school as Senryo Yama because he was forced
out. His teammates picked on him to the point of quitting.
Tae also adds that Senryo Yama may be a champion, but
he can also get into a drunken rage. Kaoru sympathizes
for Toramaru. On the way way, by fate, the Kenshin Gumi
runs into Toramaru, who has himself positioned over
the bridge leading back to the housing area. Kaoru quickly
tries to have Toramaru change his mind about suicide,
but during the whole commotion, both topple over the
bridge. However, no one could even die in a shallow
water river. |
|
Toramaru
is taken into the Kamiya Dojo where he is fed dinner.
Toramaru explains his problems, thinking that he's
not good enough. Kaoru has high hopes for Toramaru;
she knows he can be a great sumo wrestler, so she
volunteers to teach him. Kenshin, Yahiko, and freeloading
Sano all have a snicker at the idea, but the following
day, the training begins. Toramaru is driven to his
limit by Kaoru. With some support from Ayame and Suzume
and some butt pinching, Toramaru begins doing well.

Toramaru
demonstrates his strength.

Word gets around of Toramaru's
training, angering Senryo Yama. The national champion
pays a visit to the Shinto shrine near the Kamiya Dojo,
where Kaoru, Toramaru, Ayame, and Suzume are eating
lunch at. Senryo Yama has cruel intentions; he and his
boys plan to injure Toramaru so badly that he'll never
be able to sumo wrestle again. Kaoru fends off Senryo
Yama's thugs as Toramaru runs away with Ayame and Suzume.
Shortly after, Kaoru follows his tracks, but Senryo
Yama's men push a statue down the stairs of the shrine.
Toramaru sets the girls down and knocks the statue away,
but a piece continues to roll down, positioned to crush
Ayame and Suzume. Just in the nick of time, Kenshin
arrives to save them. Sano and Yahiko had accompanied
the rurouni, and soon enough, Kenshin and Sano lay out
all of Senryo Yama's men. |

A
victory over the national champ himself.
|
It
comes down to one last fight. Senryo Yama must take
on Toramaru. Kenshin wants to know the real reason
why Senryo Yama picked on Toramaru. With a pinch of
his butt, Toramaru charges into the battle. Senryo
Yama looks to have the advantage for the first half
when he tosses Toramaru into the air. Yet, Toramaru
maintains balance and lands on his feet. With a powerful
charge, Toramaru is able to knock down Senryo Yama,
earning victory. The coach of the sumo wrestlers was
watching all along. He understands why Senryo Yama
wanted to take out Toramaru, the champion feared his
competition. Senryo Yama knew that Toramaru had all
the potential to become a great sumo, so he feared
one day, he'd lose his rank. The coach, however, offers
Toramaru to rejoin the group. Toramaru accepts the
offer and asks Senryo Yama if he may rejoin. Senryo
Yama bows his head in acceptance.

Kenshin:
A Normal Person?
|
A few days later, at the
Kamiya Dojo, everyone wonders how Toramaru is doing.
When his name is mentioned, Toramaru walks in with two
large barrels on his shoulders. He greets everyone and
brings thanks with rice. Kenshin offers to take the
rice barrels, but when Toramaru hands it to him, the
rurouni falls over from the tremendous amount of weight.
Sano states it the best when he says Kenshin may be
the best samurai, but he's a normal guy when it comes
down to it all. |
