To
Save a Small Life! Challenge. Doctor Megumi.

The
Soon-To-Be Famous Doctor Megumi
|
One
morning, Doctor Genzai had thrown out his back while
waking himself up with a bucket of wate rin the morning.
Kaoru and Yahiko voluntarily helped Megumi take care
of business, patient-wise, until a friend of Sano's
was escorted it. He was bloody and bruised; the Hishi
Manji Yakuza had shot him with a wooden cannon during
a fight over at a gambling hall. Megumi had saved
Sano's friend's life before it lost that evening.
Once she had done so, positive words had spread throughout
Tokyo about Megumi. Megumi had become very, very popular.
With Genzai still out of action, however, Megumi was
forced to take house calls. One patient, a little
girl named Kaede, was very sick. Although Kaede's
parents would pay any amount for something to cure
their daughter, it just wasn't the case. Megumi followed
Genzai's perscription and told Kaede's parents to
give it to her.

Now
just who does this guy think he is?
|
As they walked back home,
Megumi began to gripe a little to Yahiko about Kaede's
parents, thinking that money can cure everything. On
the way, a guy falls in front of the two and begins
complaining his stomach hurts. People soon gather around
the area, making a big scene. The man calls for a doctor,
and Yahiko announces that Megumi is one. Everyone recognizes
Megumi immediately once reminded, but to everyone's
surprise, Megumi walks away from the man, saying she
only cures sick people. Kaoru and Sano had gathered
around the scene too. Along comes a hefty priest with
a staff in hand who introduces himself as Raiko. Raiko
claims he has returned from the mountains where he has
gotten powers from God. With his staff, Raiko begins
swinging it over the "sick" man and then makes
some kind of drink, which he calls the Elixir of God.
Raiko gives it to the man and immediately he is cured.
Everyone thinks Raiko has performed a miracle. |

The
rumors have gotten bad about Megumi.
|
Word
gets around Tokyo about Megumi and how she ignored
a sick individual. Instead of Megumi they want, everyone
wants Raiko to cure themselves or their loved ones.
In actuality, Raiko is nothing but a fake who only
accepts rich patients with a lot of money, Sano and
his friends know it. Raiko is actually running with
the Hishi Manji Yakuza and they have set up the whole
thing so they can get rich off of the people. As Megumi
passes through the streets, she and Yahiko find Kaede
being taken away with her parents by Raiko. Both Megumi
and Yahiko try to stop them, but the Hishi Manji blocks
their way. Once Raiko's carriage rides off, Yahiko
quickly follows behind.

Kenshin
saves the day, again.
|
Raiko has taken Kaede
and her family to his house, where he does his usual
stint. That is, until Megumi and Yahiko bust in and
expose that Raiko is a farse. Kaede's parents find it
hard to believe, but they realize it's the truth once
the Hishi Manji Yakuza stands at the entryway, ready
to kill the two for knowing. Sano enters just in the
nick of time. He takes care of the yakuza when their
blades are drawn for revenge on his friend. Yahiko assists
as well, but it is Sano who deals the punches to Raiko.
Out of the blue, the wooden cannon is fired at Raiko's
house. Luckily, Sano had thrown everyone into safety,
avoiding the cannonball, but again they were shot at.
Before being bombarded with yet another shot, Kenshin
steps onto the scene and makes his presence known. The
Hishi Manji instead fire their wooden cannon at him.
Kenshin, however, cuts the cannonball in half and eliminates
the entire yakuza by himself. |
|
After
the ruckus, Raiko had a sore stomach. Megumi would
only help him if he revealed he was a fake, which
he later did. Soon, everyone knew the truth. Raiko
was cured, however, by plain old water, which he thought
was some kind of medicine. Once Doctor Genzai was
back in comission, he was taking it easy, although
his place was busy. Everyone wanted Megumi instead
of him. Yet, there was one thing that Megumi could
not cure. She could help the sick and treat the wounded,
but Megumi could not cure lovesickness.
