The
Bratty Samurai... Why Don't You Become My Student?
|
|
|
Look
what the silence has done to Kaoru.
|
The
silence of the Kamiya Dojo is driving Kaoru nuts; she
can't stand not hearing students train. While Kenshin
manages to do a few chores in order to earn his keep,
Doctor Genzai's granddaughters, Ayame and Suzume, grow
hungry. Off to town is where they will eat, and the
two young girls wish to eat sukiyaki at the Akabeko,
though, at Kenshin's expense.
|
|
Along the way, Kenshin
notices a young boy pickpocketing from an old man who's
about to buy his grandson an item from a shop. However,
the boy soon returns the stolen wallet and walks away
in a guilty manner. As he passes by, Kenshin commends
the boy, but is then dragged away by Kaoru. The pickpocket
won't give up yet. After noticing Kenshin's Sakabatou,
he decides to steal Kenshin's money. Luckily, Kaoru
tackles the boy down, forcing him to give back the money,
but Kenshin won't accept it. Instead, he gives the money
to the boy. Kenshin warns the "kid" not to get into
any more trouble, but as he and Kaoru walks away, the
boy tosses the pouch of money at Kenshin's head, correcting
him that he's not some kid, but Tokyo's best samurai,
Myoujin Yahiko. Kenshin turns back to apologize, and
before he leaves, he tells Yahiko to keep that pride
he has there.

This
is what you get when Kaoru is mad at you.
|
Yahiko
ponders the words of Kenshin as he sits by a lake. In
just a matter of time, Yahiko is approached by a few
men who ask him for his payoff. At the Akabeko, Tae,
the waitress, explains that Yahiko now works for the
Shuei Gumi. Since Yahiko's mother was sick, his father
borrowed money from the Shuei Gumi, and since then,
there has been an increasing debt to pay off and they're
forcing Yahiko to do that. Kaoru won't stand for it
anymore. She gets up and storms out of the restaurant,
despite Kenshin pleading that she not get involved.

Kaoru
shows the Shuei Group what she's made of.
|
Kaoru
bursts into the Shuei Gumi's headquarters, demanding
that Yahiko, who has been already beaten up by the members,
be released. It is agreed. If Kaoru wins, Yahiko goes
with her, but if they win, Kaoru must be their slave
forever. A dice game will decide it all, and easily,
Kaoru is the winner. However, Yahiko managed to swap
the dice beforehand. The Shuei Gumi is angered, but
remembering Kenshin's warm words, Yahiko snaps at them,
saying he's leaving because he has enough pride to do
so. The main man abusing Yahiko named Gasuke laughs,
finally telling the truth by saying the debt was paid
long ago, but the Shuei Gumi just kept Yahiko for kicks.
A fight bursts out soon after and even Kaoru gets involved
with her shinai, but soon after, Kaoru is outnumbered
and Yahiko is taken away to the back to see the boss
of the Shuei Gumi.

|
|
Kenshin
decides to take Yahiko with him.
|
An offer
is made to Yahiko by the boss. He offers Yahiko to be
his apprentice. Yahiko declines. Angered at his decision,
the boss asks Gasuke to show Yahiko a lesson. Enter
Kenshin. Kenshin demands to have Kaoru and Yahiko returned.
Gasuke won't take kindly to the stranger's presence
when he charges at Kenshin madly, but with one swipe,
Kenshin smashes Gasuke into the ceiling. Everyone is
shocked, no one wants to fight Kenshin now, so calmly,
he leaves, carrying Yahiko with Kaoru following him.

What
a good start for teacher and student: a chase.
|
Back
at the Kamiya Dojo, Yahiko tells Kenshin he wishes to
learn to be as great a fighter as Kenshin himself. Kenshin
refuses to teach Yahiko, because he'll already be learning
from his real teacher, Kaoru. Yahiko isn't too pleased
with the outcome, so he teases Kaoru, saying a raccoon
would be a better teacher. A chase begins between Kaoru
and Yahiko. It looks like that Kaoru will be stuck with
her new, bratty student for a while.
