One
Word: Evil. The Fighter Sanosuke Appears.
|
After
hearing another argument between Kaoru and Yahiko,
Kenshin figures he go and make some lunch, pickles.
Yahiko grumbles, wishing to eat something else for
once, and that sparks Kaoru to sell her grandfather's
Chinese painting for some money so they can eat sukiyaki
at the Akabeko. At the restaurant, Yahiko eats like
a madman, while Kenshin and Doctor Genzai overhear
a few men across the room complaining about the government.
The men are most likely drunk as they complain about
the government not protecting the poor and insuring
everyone's freedom. A bowl of rice flies towards Kenshin's
head from out of no where. Yahiko grows angered by
the action and suspects its the group of men immediately.
The young samurai in training demands that the drunks
apologize, but they refuse to. Before a fight breaks
out, Tae tries to calm things down, but one of the
men hits her away into the arms of a gangster who
happens to be dining.

Yowch.
That's got to hurt.
|
Outside, a fight commences.
The gangster can't stand to hear guys talking about
such things, especially when they do such things as
hit a woman. One of the drunks charges at the gangster,
only to have his arm bent backwards. A painful sight
indeed, and before the other two men can help out
their friend, Kenshin threatens them to leave and
never come back. The cold eyes of the Hitokiri Battousai
scare the three men off. Later, the gangster and Kenshin's
group meet. Shortly into the conversation, Zanza,
the gangster's name, asks Kenshin if he would like
to fight. Kenshin declines the offer, causing Zanza
to depart. Zanza explains that he lives not too far
away from town, so if Kenshin wants to fight, he should
know where to find him. No one knows what to make
of him except an old enemy who has his eyes on Zanza,
and Tae, who just knows Zanza forgot to pay his bill.
|
That evening, Hiruma
Gohei arrives at Zanza's house, asking the gangster
to kill Kenshin for a sum of money. Zanza admits
he's no hitman, but when Gohei mentions that Kenshin
is really the legendary Hitokiri Battousai, Zanza
is prepared to do battle. Meanwhile, at the Kamiya
Dojo, Yahiko prepares to escort Doctor Genzai and
his granddaughters home, but Kenshin senses something
at the front door.

Showdown
at the Kamiya Dojo.
|
Zanza and Kenshin
meet, and it is Zanza who insists this fight take
place until he kills the greatest fighter in the
world, the Hitokiri Battousai. Before battle, which
Kenshin really does not want to take part in, Zanza
introduces his real name, Sagara Sanosuke. His gangster
name was earned because of his weapon, the Zanbatou,
which he reveals to Kenshin.

Who
exactly is this Zanza character?
|
The fight begins,
and the way Zanza is wielding the Zanbatou impresses
Kenshin a lot. However, before any blows are dealt,
Zanza halts when he sees Ayame and Suzume nearby.
The gangster who wears the kanji for 'evil' on his
back cannot fight in front of children. Zanza has
no other choice but to save this fight for another
day. Kenshin asks the departing gangster a few questions,
but they will remained unanswered until another
day and time.
