Notarou
has eaten ALL of the ricecakes.
|
Upon a visit to a shrine
to pray for good luck, Sano had encountered a chubby
dog that looked sick. He took it to the Kamiya Dojo,
where he found Megumi. The dog was treated, as it
had drank too much water. Ricecakes were made by Megumi,
and as always, Sano was starving. However, his new
canine friend had the first dibs. The dog Sano had
brought over had eaten all of the ricecakes, despite
both Sano and Yahiko trying to pull him off. A name
had to be thought up for such an animal. Notarou is
what Sano suggested. |

In order to find Notarou's
owner, Kenshin, Yahiko, and Sano began to post notices
all over town. During the time spent at the Kamiya
Dojo, Notarou had done his business freely in any
room he pleased and even ate Kaoru's cooking. Sano
was forced to bring home Notarou with him. Even that
didn't work out too well; Notarou was a bit noisy.
The following day, to see if his praying worked, Sano
went off to the gambling halls, leaving Notarou at
the dojo again. This time, Notarou not only tried
to bury many precious items such as Kenshin's Sakabatou
and Yahiko's shinai, but he was chased around, through
the rooms and everywhere else, by Kaoru and Yahiko.
By time Sano returned with nothing to show for the
time spent gambling, he was forced to take Notarou
back. However, Kaoru didn't want Notarou to step a
foot in her household ever again. Without a choice,
Sano dropped off the dog at Genzai's/Megumi's place. |

"Yes,
I'm looking for this lost little dog."

Yahiko was persistent
to have Kenshin teach him something, but since Notarou
had also buried the laundry, Kenshin was forced to
rewash quite a load. Unexpectedly, Police Chief Uramura
greeted the two and asked for a moment with Kenshin.
Kenshin put his washing on hold and listened to what
the police chief had to say. Uramura spoke of a group
known as the Kenwa, a gang of kenpo fighters who claim
to be democratic. What the Kenwa want to do is use
a key that government officials they had ambushed
a few nights ago. The key is said to lead to a safe
that contains evidence against "dirty" politicians,
which the Kenwa want to use to blackmail them. However,
the key had disappeared. When Uramura had seen the
notice of Notarou, he came right over to the Kamiya
Dojo. Notarou is the only creature that knows where
the key went. |

Walking down a path,
thinking about where Notarou's owner could possibly
be, is Sano. Just up ahead of the path, to his surprise,
is Notarou. Notarou runs up and greets his owner for
the time being, but that's when a group of men wearing
fox masks show up. They are the Kenwa, and they want
Notarou to come with them. Sano tells Notarou to run
off, which he does. With ease, Sanosuke the ex-gangster
tears apart the kenpo fighters. By time Kenshin and
Yahiko, who were looking for Sano, arrive on the scene
with Notarou, Sano had already won. |

Back at the shrine where
it all started is everyone. Kenshin asks Uramura for
his glasses. The police chief hands his pair over,
and Kenshin places it on the ground. With everyone
else in hiding, Notarou sniffs the glasses and takes
them away. Quickly, everyone follows. It's the same
thing Notarou had done earlier; he was trying to bury
items. In the hole where Notarou had dropped the glasses
was also the key Uramura was searching for. With his
thanks given to Kenshin, Uramura departs, but reminds
Sano that Notarou's real owners want their dog back.
Since they couldn't make it today, however, Sano is
forced to hold the dog for one more night. Everyone
heads back home to the Kamiya Dojo, happy that everything
has been settled. Yet, Kaoru is mad because both Kenshin
and Yahiko haven't done anything while she was gone.
Sano runs away before he gets yelled at and stops
over at Genzai's/Megumi's place not only to drop off
Notarou, but to freeload on food as well. |
