Himura Dojo in Shimonoseki? Another Battousai Appears.
Battousai? Yeah right.
Stranded in Shimonoseki, the Kenshin Gumi, plus Misao, are forced to wait for a ship back to Osaka. To feed their cravings, the group eats at a sukiyaki restaurant, but their meal is rudely interrupted by drunks who call themselves the Tengu Group. The drunk men who claim to be freedom fighters demand free sake, but the employees at the restaurant won't give any to them. Upset at their comments, Yahiko and Misao call out the Tengu Group. The men accept the kids' challenge, but they are easily beaten up. However, after being humiliated, the Tengu Group draw their swords. Before Kenshin steps into the rumble, a man comes jumping in like a kabuki. This strange man is addressed by the Tengu Group as the Hitokiri Battousai. "Battousai" threatens to draw his sword. With such a mere threat stated, the Tengu Group runs off. Everyone believes that some stranger with a cross scar on his left arm is truly the Hitokiri Battousai. The onlookers all thank "Battousai", and one man even gives him a money donation, which he accepts.

"Battousai" rambling on and on to some shopkeepers.
Although Kenshin doesn't mind someone using his old name, Misao investigates this so-called "Battousai". It appears that "Battousai" goes from place-to-place, bragging about fights he had. The people always give "Battousai" a donation, whether it be money or food. Sano reminds everyone that Shimonoseki was once under the rule of the Choshou Ishin Shishi, therefore, a lot of the people are well aware of the Hitokiri Battousai. Kaoru joins up with everyone once she returns from checking out a few inns. The Kenshin Gumi apparently have nowhere to stay for the inn; all the inns are full. Yet, before they find another place to settle down, Kaoru and Misao first want to deal with "Battousai".

She's gonna blow!
Kenshin is dragged along to "Battousai"'s place, an old abandoned temple called Himura Dojo. Everyone is a bit ticked off at how some farce is running around with Kenshin's name, everyone except Kenshin. When Yahiko calls out to ask if anyone's home, "Battousai" greets the five, but spots Kenshin's Sakabatou first. Immediately, "Battousai" thinks that Kenshin wants to learn kenjutsu from him. Kenshin is a bit hesitant to say anything, so he is forced into the training. The first piece of training is holding a bokken. Kenshin's hands are a bit shaky, so therefore, he has trouble holding the wooden sword properly. "Battousai" slaps Kenshin on the head and hands a couple of times with a fan. The remainder of the Kenshin Gumi begins to grow angered and frustrated. Misao is the first to step forward to give "Battousai" a piece of her mind. Before she does so, however, a bunch of children run out from the dojo.

The Tengu Group with Anzai Jurobei
"Battousai" allows Kenshin and his friends to stay for the night, yet, they have to help around the place by taking care of the children and doing some chores. Kenshin soon learns that the children "Battousai" takes care of are orphans who had lost their parents in past wars. Later, Kenshin and Sano go out to do the shopping. While the two are gone from the Himura Dojo, the Tengu Group appears. "Battousai" stands up against them and threatens to draw his sword once again. The Tengu Group are still fear "Battousai", but from behind the group of men comes one man who isn't frightened. Anzai Jurobei is the man's name. He has been hired by the Tengu Group to kill the Hitokiri Battousai. "Battousai" does the same stint, but it doesn't work on Jurobei.

Nice haircut, Jurobei.
The Tengu Group all draw their swords. While "Battousai" is chased by Jurobei, Kaoru and Yahiko deal with the Tengu Group. Meanwhile, after leading the orphans to safety, Misao runs off to get Kenshin and Sano. Once at the end of Jurobei's blade, "Battousai" finally admits that he is not the legendary Hitokiri. Yet, Jurobei is so hell-bent on killing the impostor that he doesn't believe the truth. Jurobei raises his sword and strikes down. Just in the nick of time, Kenshin runs in and cuts off the tip of Jurobei's sword. Jurobei examines Kenshin and calls him Battousai. At last, everyone knows who the true Hitokiri Battousai is. With ease, Kenshin knocks out Jurobei with a Ryu Tsui Sen, using his scabbard, but there's other trouble. Two members of the Tengu Group have found the orphans. With their swords, they threaten to kill them if everyone doesn't drop their weapons. "Battousai", however, charges forward and takes out the two thugs.

Kenshin's been tricked!
Everything is cleared. "Battousai"'s true name is Ogawa Heizo. Originally, Heizo tried out to be a samurai, but wasn't cut out for it. Later, he began selling frog oil and on his travels, he encountered the orphans. Heizo wanted to support the children, but didn't have any money. So, he turned to the stories he heard about the Hitokiri Battousai and began going under that name. At the docks, Kenshin clearly states that he threw the name Battousai away years ago, so Ogawa asks if he can use it then. Kenshin doesn't know what to say. Before Kenshin actually agrees to anything, Ogawa thanks Kenshin for allowing him to continue using the name. The impostor had tricked the original. Thus, concluding their interesting stay at Shimonoseki, the Kenshin Gumi depart into the sunset on their ship to Osaka.
