A New Battle! The Mysterious and Beautiful Woman Who Jumped in Suddenly.
Kenshin isn't really that good at gambling at all.
Somewhere in town, Sano is gambling with his friends. Kenshin had come along when Sano had told him he had important business to tend to, but was just dragged along as a good luck charm. Even with Kenshin there, Sano doesn't look to be doing any good as he loses all of his money. With losing money in mind, Sano remembers that he has to pay his friend Yoita back. Usually, Yoita is present, but his friends unfortunately bear the bad news to Sano, saying he died of bad opium. The news is shocking to Sano, but suddenly, a woman bursts in and asks Kenshin to save her from two men chasing her after spotting that he has a sword. In his angry and depressed mood, Sano takes care of the two men easily, but a smaller individual has slivered his way into the housing. Beshimi, as the woman calls him, demands that the escapee comes with her. After the woman refuses to go, Beshimi launches poison darts at Sano's friends, missing the mysterious woman. With much power behind them, Kenshin and Sano hit the dart throwing man, sending him flying out of the house.

"Stop flirting, Kenshin!"

Later, Kenshin returns to the Kamiya Dojo with the woman, Takani Megumi, and Sano. Megumi begins to hang over Kenshin, praising him for saving her. Kaoru grows jealous and beats up Kenshin, suspecting that he's being a flirt. Elsewhere, a man by the name of Takeda Kanryu, a rich gangster, plots his next move. For some reason, he wishes for his men to capture Megumi. Failure results in death, as the two men who were chasing Megumi earlier in the day find out.

Oniwa Banshu Leader, Shinomori Aoshi
That evening, Kenshin speaks with Megumi privately. It is found out that the men after Megumi are known as the Oniwa Banshu. She fears that Kenshin will be no match when against the feared group because each man is very powerful, including its leader, Shinomori Aoshi, who became the Oniwa Banshu leader at age fifteen. Kenshin tries to get Megumi to spill why Kanryu is after her, but the woman refuses to answer. Kaoru tries to listen to the conversation, suspicious of Kenshin's actions, but she is caught in the act by Sano. By time Kaoru is done whining to Sanosuke, Kenshin exits the room and informs Sano that the Oniwa Banshu is expected soon. Yahiko appears and is really hyped up, hoping to get some action this time.

Kenshin deals with Hyottoko's fire breath.
The doors of the dojo bust open as a large man wearing a keg on his back appears. Hyottoko, the man's name, has come for Megumi. Sanosuke wastes no time in stepping up first, but he discovers Hyottoko's ability. Hyottoko can breath fire, and he does so freely on Sano. When Sano steps aside to recover, Hyottoko breathes his fire at Kenshin. Kenshin has a plan, unlike Sano; he uses his Sakabatou to block the flames until Hyottoko has run out of oil. Suddenly, Sano steps back in and finishes the job. With Hyottoko still breathing fire on him, Sano runs through the flames and punches the big ogre directly in his mouth, taking out his bag of oil that was stuck in his throat as well.

Oh no! Yahiko's poisoned!
Hyottoko is knocked out, and everyone tends to Sano and his severe burns. Beshimi curses from the tree he was watching from and decides to try killing Megumi at the moment. A poison dart spirals towards Megumi, and quickly, Yahiko spots it and jumps in the way, taking the hit. Beshimi shows himself and pities Yahiko, announcing that he'll be dead in an hour. Kenshin leaps forward, trying to strike Beshimi, but before he connects, Beshimi is taken away by a mysterious figure wearing a skull mask. This mystery man, who also is carrying Hyottoko, mentions that he's a bit surprised to see a samurai in the current period, but whatever the case, he promises that they will meet up again. Once he's gone, Megumi looks over Yahiko. The boy's been poisoned by Mandara poison, and Megumi acts as the doctor, giving orders to Kenshin, Kaoru, and Sano. When Megumi heads off into the dojo carrying Yahiko, Sano notices she's dropped something. Curiously, Sano picks it up and has a taste. Opium.
