Himura Kenshin
vs.
Saitou Hajime

The battle from the Bakumatsu had continued at the Kamiya Dojo. Kenshin had returned home after fighting Akamatsu in a field. A letter written by Saitou had told Kenshin to meet him there, but Saitou never showed up. The reason was because Saitou, posing as Fujita Goro, entered the Kamiya Dojo and waited for Kenshin's arrival. When the sun had set, the battle begun. Saitou sprung forward with his Gatotsu. Kenshin leapt up to avoid it and came down with a Ryu Tsui Sen. To Kenshin's surprise, Saitou had an anti-air Gatotsu, which hit him in stomach. Kenshin had barely managed being skewered, but he was left stuck on Saitou's sword.

Like a piece of garbage, Saitou swung Kenshin off of his sword and into a wall. When Kenshin got up, again, Saitou charged with the Gatotsu. This time, Kenshin managed to block it, but he was knocked back to the wall. With Kenshin left open, Saitou prepared to finish him off. Kaoru made her way into the battle and took a stand before Kenshin. She did not want to see the man she loved be killed by the Mibu Wolf. Still, Kenshin got up and the fight continued. With more power and speed, Kenshin charged for Saitou. It looked as though Kenshin had disappeared for a second, but when Saitou's eyes focused on the rurouni, he kicked Kenshin, sending him back into a wall.

Saitou again used the Gatotsu. Kenshin was ready this time. When Saitou charged, Kenshin ducked and backhanded Saitou's neck with his Sakabatou. Even with Saitou grazed a bit, the battle still continued. Kenshin and Saitou clashed their swords repeatedly until Saitou finally pushed Kenshin up against a wall. Out of desperation, Kenshin kneed Saitou in the jaw and leapt over him. A loose feeling in Saitou's mouth was felt. The police officer spat out blood, and with it, a tooth. In a rage, Saitou charged forward. Foolishly, he let his katana blade to be cut off by Kenshin. However, broken sword or not, Saitou stood in a Gatotsu stance.

Instead of trying to hit Kenshin with an actual Gatotsu, Saitou threw his broken sword at Kenshin. Kenshin swatted the broken weapon away with his left arm. Receiving a large cut on his hand was better than being left open. Everyone watching, Kaoru, Yahiko, Sanosuke, and Megumi, thought that Saitou would now be helpless against Kenshin. Yet, everyone was surprised when Saitou used his own belt to slap Kenshin's hand, forcing him to drop his Sakabatou. Repeated punches were hit on Kenshin following. While stunned from the blows, Kenshin was left staggering for a bit. Saitou took advantage of the situation by choking his old rival with the belt.

With the belt, Saitou was trying to snap Kenshin's neck. Using quick thinking, Kenshin pushed down on his scabbard. That caused the scabbard's other end to rise, hitting Saitou in the chin. The hit was just enough to loosen Saitou's grip. Once Kenshin was free, he took heavy breaths. Slowly during the fight, he was transforming back into the Battousai. Both men were exhausted from their battle. Before it could continue, however, Saitou was stopped by Toshimichi Okubo, the man he was working for. The battle had been carried away by Saitou. Originally, it was planned only to measure the fighting ability of Kenshin to see if he was fit to face Shishio Makoto.
