Chou earns
his nickname, Katana Gari (Sword Lovin') Chou because
of his attraction to blades made by famous sword craftsmen.
If there's a sword created and it's rare or is special
in a way, Chou probably has it or has his mind set on
getting it. His collection consists of a few swords created
by Arai Shatku, the same craftsman who created the Sakabatou.
When he heard
of Arai Shatku's final sword, Chou ran over from his home
in Osaka to Kyoto and was the first Juppon Gatana member
to encounter Kenshin. Although he had lost in the process
and was thrown in jail, Chou was still arrogant as ever.
Some even think of him as Sanosuke's long lost brother
because of their similar attitudes. However, Chou could
be considered a bit more smarter. To get out of prison,
Chou accepted the Meiji Government's offer to have him
work as a private detective. Yet, Chou never thought he'd
be working under Saitou of all people.
In the stages
of the capture of Yukishiro Enishi, it was Chou who discovered
Gein's gruesome laboratory in Enishi's mansion. Most likely,
because of that, Chou began to hate his new occupation.
He had planned to steal a few things before leaving the
force, but wasn't able to because of his boss' presence
in the room. It really is unknown what happened to the
sword lover after that, whether he stayed in the force
or actually kept his word about quitting.
