Kenji is the
son of Kenshin and Kaoru. Although he looks exactly like
his father without the cross scar, Kenji really doesn't
like Kenshin that much, but instead, completely adores
his mother.
Not much of
Kenji was seen, since appeared only in the final chapter
of the manga, but his future was elaborated upon more
in the Passing of Time Arc. When Kenshin had left Kaoru
to assist Yamagata Aritomo, Kenji had grown tired of seeing
his mother saddened all of the time, so the young boy
traveled to Kyoto and demanded to be taught by his father's
master, Hiko Seijuurou, in the same style his father used,
the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu. When he had seen his father
and Yahiko clash on the day of Yahiko's Genpuku, he wanted
to possess the same power as Kenshin. However, when Kaoru
was practically lying on her deathbed, Kenji refused to
return home. It took Yahiko to beat some sense into the
stubborn boy, who had already shown that he was a natural
born talent for the sword. After that, Kenji was handed
down the Sakabatou, which Yahiko had, as a late Genpuku
present for the boy to continue his father's legacy, and
even got a girlfriend who looked almost identical to his
mother.
