Nenji was
an original member of the Oniwa Banshu. His skills could
match that of the leader. During the Bakumatsu, he was
a very skilled spy that went under the name Okina. When
the leader of the Oniwa Banshu passed away, many had suspected
Okina to take his place, but Nenji had given up his position
to Shinomori Aoshi, feeling the group should be led by
a new generation.
Despite is
his age, Nenji is quite strong. He is skilled in the tonfa
and moves almost like he did in his prime. Nenji was the
one who set up the Aoiya Restaurant/Inn in Kyoto as a
hideout for Oniwa Banshu members. Currently, he watches
over Misao, acting as a grandfather to her. Misao refers
to Nenji as Jiya. Over time, however, Nenji has grown
a bit senile. He can take blows, yes, but perhaps they
caused a bit too much brain damage.
Because of
his past occupation, Nenji keeps in touch with the news
in his hometown of Kyoto. He knows everything inside out
and has reliable sources to get or find almost anything
in the ancient capital.
