Captain of
the first division of the Shinsen Gumi, Okita Souji, appears
to be a kind young man, but his looks are deceiving, for
the truth is, Okita is a very skilled swordsman, possibly
one that surpasses the level of even the most notable
Shinsen Gumi member, a man who he has great respect for,
Saitou Hajime. He was one of the five who assisted in
bringing upon a new beginning to the Shinsen Gumi when
he participated in the assassinations of the previous
leaders. Although, Okita never did get his time to shine
when facing the Shinsen Gumi's biggest problem, Hitokiri
Battousai, due to his tuberculosis condition, which ended
up taking his life.
