The leader
of the Seikihou Tai, Sagara Souzou, was a man who believed
in the equality of the four classes during the time of
the Tokugawa Era. He believed and supported the government
during his time, hoping that one day his dream would become
a reality. Souzou was a kind and peaceful man, thus, he
and his group were taken advantage of by an Ishin named
Shindo Tatewaki.
Tatewaki told
Souzou to spread word that the current government would
cut the price in half. He did so, believing that it was
the truth, but in reality, it was far from it. People
learned of the lies the Seikihou Tai and began trusting
the Ishin Government. It was all a set up. The Ishin Government
had used the Seikihou Tai to force the people into trusting
the new, rising government. Tatewaki revealed his true
colors and assassinated most of the Seikihou Tai with
gunmen.
Souzou was
severly wounded, but he had enough time to save Sanosuke
from being killed. A few days later, Sagara Souzou was
executed in front of many whom he had told about the cut
in the price of rice. In the current time, the only two
known survivors of the Seikihou Tai are Sagara Sanosuke
and Tsukioka Katsuhiro, the two youngest members of the
group that is now known in the history books as a group
of liars. Souzou's last name was adopted by Sanosuke,
as he was respected by Sano when he was a child.
