Because Kenshin
won't fight him with his full strength, Enishi
tells the story of a boy whose sister was killed
by a hitokiri. The boy had lived in Japan, but
moved to Shanghai after seeing his sister die
before his eyes. Shanghai was a brutal place for
one with no money to live, so the boy had to survive
by any means necessary, even if it meant eating
the flesh off of corpses on the streets. Within
a month's span, the boy had collapsed from exhaustion
and other complications, but he was saved by a
Japanese couple who had an extended stay in Shanghai
to study Chinese books. The couple was that of
the upper class, and they took in the boy, bringing
him back to full strength. The young boy was so
happy, happy that God had sent him such easy prey.
The boy had murdered
the family that had taken him in. Money was no
longer a problem for him. While venturing the
home afterwards, he discovered Watoujutsu. Ten
years later, the boy had mastered the art, incorporating
some of his style into as well. Why the boy had
killed the family was simply because he could
not stand seeing such happiness before him.
Kenshin has had
enough of Enishi's story. He lunges forward with
the Ryu Kan Sen, but Enishi blocks with his tachi's
butt and stabs the rurouni's left arm with a piercing
technique he calls Kaishi Tou Sei. Enishi concludes
his story by saying the boy returned to Japan
shortly after rising to the top of Shanghai's
black market once he found out that the hitokiri
changed his name and found a new happiness. That
the boy could not stand. He begins advancing towards
Kaoru while Kenshin tends to his fresh wound,
but the rurouni stops him from progressing. At
last, Kenshin says he will fight seriously.
