Yahiko brings Misao and
Aoshi over to the Kamiya Dojo where he shows them Kaoru's
memorial. Misao cannot believe that Kaoru is dead. She
and Aoshi had traveled from Kyoto with Tomoe's diary,
only to find that they were too late to protect a casualty
from occurring. Yahiko is the gloomiest he's ever been,
but Misao quickly changes her emotions from sadness
to courage. With a smile on her face, she motivates
Yahiko to assist her in bringing justice upon Enishi.
Since they have the diary, the two plan on forcing Kaoru's
murderer to read his sister's true feelings and make
him apologize for his wrongdoings on his knees. Even
Aoshi agrees to lend a hand, so plans are made for the
following day.
Early in the morning,
Sanosuke pays a visit to the Rakuninmura. After easily
disposing of the area's residents that stood in his
way, he walks up to Kenshin, who's still in the same
position as the day before. Without a second thought,
Sanosuke cracks Kenshin across the face with his right
fist, turns his back towards the rurouni, then says
good-bye.
Both Yahiko and Misao
head off to see Sanosuke at his place. Aoshi had gone
off alone elsewhere to do something. Reluctantly, on
their way, the two kids meet up with Sanosuke. Yahiko
calls out at him and says they're going to go see Kenshin.
Coldly, Sanosuke tells them to give up on their former
savior, as he is now a lost cause, nothing more but
a dead man who's still alive. He mentions to Yahiko
that he left his room at the rowhouses in tact for him.
Sanosuke doesn't want Yahiko to rot in a place that's
already finished. With that said, he continues down
the road after saying good-bye again. Yahiko cannot
believe that everyone is suddenly leaving. As he watches
Sanosuke disappear, he shouts out that everything will
not end in such a way. Yahiko promises that things will
be fine once again. Sanosuke doesn't bother to look
back, so neither do Yahiko and Misao as they head off
to the Rakuninmura.
Meanwhile, at the Oguni
Clinic, Aoshi asks Megumi to tell him about everything
she knows. There is something about the entire situation
that Aoshi can't quite take into acceptance.
