Sometime in the evening,
Kaoru's grave is dug up for Aoshi to verify. He
just cannot believe that Kaoru is actually dead.
For one, no one actually witnessed her murder. When
he was leader of the Oniwa Banshu, Aoshi heard of
a skill that very few people knew. It was a rare
craftsmanship of how to assemble lifelike models
using human flesh, fat, and bone. Gein's Iwanbou
model Sansouke had left in the dojo's storage room
was enough evidence for Aoshi to suspect the real
Kaoru was not killed because it had begun to decay.
Megumi claims she checked over Kaoru's body and
swears it was no model, but Aoshi doesn't believe
one can make such assertions when someone close
to them dies.
Yahiko opens up Kaoru's
casket in hopes of discovering the truth. Kaoru
is still in tact, but Aoshi wants to cut her open
to see something. Megumi is totally against such
a thing, but Yahiko isn't. He holds Megumi back
and tells Aoshi to do as he pleases. With his kodachi,
Aoshi cuts into Kaoru, only to find a bunch of wires.
That proves it; Kaoru is still alive, somewhere.
