Again,
Aoshi asks where Kaoru is, but Gein
gives no answer. While the old man begins
thinking of his next move, his thoughts
are interrupted when Aoshi demolishes
the entire area with the Kaiten Kenbu
Rokuren. Gein is chased out of hiding
and followed. He stops in a tree and
waits for his hunter to catch up.
Once
Aoshi does so, Gein agrees to tell him
where Kaoru is if he tells him where
his corpse doll is. Intentionally, Gein
slips out that Enishi's location, on
the west bank of the Arakawa River,
forcing Aoshi to say his answer. Gein
plays dumb and pretends he cannot hear
too well, so he lures Aoshi in closer
to him. Aoshi plays along and eventually
gets caught in a web of steel wires
soaked in highly refined oil. Gein repeats
his question, but is then shocked when
he hears Aoshi's answer clearly. The
corpse doll was burned, simply because
Aoshi pitied the bodies being used by
such a selfish practitioner.
An angry
Gein sets the web on fire with no regrets.
Aoshi immediately executes the Onmyou
Hasshi, stabbing Gein in the left shoulder.
On the handle of the kodachi launched
is a steel wire tied onto it. Before
he is pulled into the fire to join the
former Oniwa Banshu leader, Gein begs
Aoshi to spare his life and in exchange,
he'll open up the web. Aoshi has no
sympathy for the soon-to-be dead; he
pulls Gein in.
A police
unit investigate the scene after the
fire had died out. Amongst the evidence
is Gein's skull mask and an actual skull.
From under a pile of rubble rises Aoshi.
He had escaped death by taking cover
in a plot that was dug up twice. Saitou,
who happens to be with the investigation
unit, questions Aoshi if he had thought
of committing suicide along with the
mechanical artist. Aoshi replies with
an unexpected answer, saying he still
has business to take care of and that
there is someone waiting for his return.
