Yahiko is just about to
tell Tsubame the truth about Kaoru until he is interrupted
by the sound of the police bell being rung. A small group
of policemen run throughout the streets, telling everyone
to get as far away from the city as possible. Yahiko rudely
catches the attention of one officer by kicking him downstairs
to learn what the situation is. The young and unfortunate
officer announces the escape of Kujiranami, sending everyone
into panic. The chain of command is broken at the moment,
since both Chief Uramura and Lieutenant Fujita are unavailable,
and the vice chief was severely wounded back at the station.
Back-up has been called for, but it won't arrive for at
least an hour.
As people run in fear left
and right, Yahiko asks the young officer his name. The
officer introduces himself as Shinichi Kosaburou, a rank
five officer. Since he's a rookie, Yahiko thinks he can
boss him around. The boy tells Shinichi to gather a few
officers in an attempt to prevent Kujiranami from getting
into the city. Yahiko runs off after giving his orders,
but is held back by something. He turns back to see Tsubame
holding onto his shirt. Tsubame reminds Yahiko that there
is no one present to deal with the situation. Yahiko looks
at Tsubame straight in the eyes for a second, then says
there is someone - himself. Despite the odds against him,
Yahiko is willing to do what he can in order to protect
the innocent. He runs off, pulling away from Tsubame's
grasp, saying everything will be all right.
At the entrance of town,
the other police officers Shinichi gathered seem to doubt
any such plan to stop Kujiranami will work. Yahiko appears
just in time to boost their confidence, assuring them
that a barrage of shots from both sides in the streets
can bring their target down. As the one-armed man draws
closer, Shinichi shouts out that he will fight and die
if he must for the people. Yahiko draws his shinai, as
the toughest challenge of his life is about to get underway.
