Early in the morning,
Megumi announces that she will be leaving for Aizu
shortly. After the recent events and because Kenshin
and Yahiko's injuries will heal shortly, she had
made up her mind to open up a clinic in her hometown.
However, she warns Kenshin of his condition. The
Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu is a godlike style. Since Kenshin's
body is not like that of his teacher, Hiko Seijuurou,
he can only handle so much. The Ama Kakeru Ryuu
no Hirameki is one technique that takes up a lot
of energy from its user. Thus, within four or five
years, Kenshin's Hiten Mitsurugi Ryuu will be ineffective
if he continues to push his body to the limit. Kenshin
understands that he can only be wielding his sword
for so long, so he decides to settle the last of
his business.
That last night of
summer, Kenshin awaits in the rocky field where
he had fought Akamatsu. Earlier, he had sent an
invitation to none other than Saitou in hopes of
bringing a conclusion to the battle they never finished
from the Bakumatsu. Yet, meanwhile, at the police
station, Chou sneaks into his shared office, prepared
to steal a thing or two after deciding to quit his
job as a private detective, only to find that Saitou
is still there. The former Juppon Gatana member
asks his boss why he isn't off fighting Kenshin
and is given a straightforward reply. The man Saitou
had faced at the end of the era was Hitokiri Battousai.
He had wanted to settle the score with the Ishin
Shishi's number one hitokiri, and not the pacifistic
rurouni that sent him the invitation.
The next day, it
was learned from Chief Uramura that Lieutenant Fujita
Goro had transferred to a different station. The
last surviving member of the Shinsen Gumi, the final
Miburo, had left the sight of Kenshin once and for
all.
