Aoshi had announced
that he and Misao shall be leaving the following
day, combining their departures with Megumi's,
so Kenshin finally asks him to have that cup of
tea. Aoshi agrees to drink with Kenshin, and is
basically thanked and told to take care of during
that quality time. Kaoru is about to set down
some tea cakes, but Aoshi gets up and says he's
finished. Misao doesn't seem to want to go back
to Kyoto. She puts up a little fit, questioning
Aoshi why they can't go somewhere fun before going
back home. Kaoru invites Misao to stay at the
Kamiya Dojo, if she would like to. Yet, Aoshi
reminds her that they must act quickly if they
want to bury 'them' in a nicer spot. Those words
change Misao's mind, and she comes to a conclusion
that she'll be leaving with Aoshi after all.
The next day, Aoshi
and Misao had left early in the morning. Nearby
the Shibashi Train Station, Megumi is also prepared
to depart to Aizu via carriage. Everyone says
their good-byes to the foxy doctor, but something's
wrong. Kaoru, the sole person who didn't really
like Megumi around, is the only one showing tears.
After Megumi invites Kenshin and Sanosuke to visit
her if they ever are in need of treatment, she
goes over and gives her medicine chest to her,
quietly reminding Kaoru that Kenshin has chosen
her and the best medicine for his cross scar is
her smile. With everything said and done, Megumi
turns her back, never once looking back, and leaves
in her carriage.
While in the area,
everyone decides to eat something fancy for lunch,
but before plans commence, the police whistle
is heard. Two policemen charge forward at Sanosuke,
threatening to arrest him if he doesn't come with
the quietly for his "crimes" in Shinshuu. Only
then does Kaoru notice Sanosuke's wanted poster
on a nearby wall. Sanosuke takes out the two cops
with ease, but there is a whole squadron backing
them up. Having no other choice, Sanosuke turns
around and flees, leaving all of his friends in
question.
