Years

Chief Uramura had explained to Kenshin, Kaoru, and Yahiko about Sanosuke's situation. Kenshin then assumes that most likely it was that of a personal matter Sanosuke wanted to handle everything himself, thus explaining why he didn't ask either of them for any assistance. After dwelling on the type of person their ex-gangster friend is, one of Sanosuke's friends passes by the Kamiya Dojo and quietly asks the three to come with him.

Later that night, Kenshin and the others meet up with Sanosuke at a harbor, where he is already prepared to leave by a small wooden boat. Sanosuke explains that he'll be leaving Japan for now to see the world. Before anymore words are exchanged, the police are heard approaching, but thanks to Chief Uramura's belief that the crime wasn't Sanosuke's fault, he purposely misguides them. With the given time he has, Sanosuke says he'll be back once Kenshin has a kid or two, embarrassing Kaoru greatly, and tells Yahiko to move out of the dojo and into his flat. Yahiko argues with Sanosuke, demanding that he fight and try to clear his name because the character of evil on his back isn't suppose to take such mistreatment from the likes of the Ishin Shishi. Sanosuke places his hand on Yahiko's head and asks if he'll be seeing Yahiko support the character of evil on his back as well. Yahiko looks a bit confused, but understands everything when Sanosuke whispers to him that not only Kenshin and Kaoru are those expecting of him. With that said, Sanosuke slaps hands with Kenshin, then sets off to the unknown.

And so, time had passed. Four years later, Tsubame is harassed by three hoodlums in the middle of the street, most likely because of her new Akabeko attire. One draws his sword after being annoyed by her resistance to come along with them, but before the sword connects with her, it is caught in the middle of someone's two fingers. Tsubame opens her eyes and looks up, only to see Yahiko as her savior. Just the mentioning of his name scares away the three pests. Supporting the character of evil on his back, Yahiko is quite well-known, now that the Kamiya Dojo has gained back its good name. Tsubame offers him lunch at the Akabeko as a gift of thanks, but for once, Yahiko decides to pass up a free meal. He has more important matters to attend to, like answering the call Kenshin gave him.
