About Slam Dunk

Slam Dunk, created by Takehiko Inoue, is about Sakuragi Hanamichi and his first year on the Shohoku high school basketball team. This series is a sports manga and it might turn people away initially from reading it; which is a definite shame because Slam Dunk is wonderful series. This is Takehiko Inoue's first major success - if you're more familiar with his other popular creation, Vagabond or Real, this should be right up your ally.

Slam Dunk is a sports series but it doesn't just solely focus on basketball. It has everything a manga should have: great characters, an inspiring story, hilarious scenes, and exceptional artwork. After watching/reading countless other series it has come to my attention that Slam Dunk is simply one of my favorites.

Support Official Release

Slam Dunk has been licensed for English release, however the project is on hiatus according to Raijin Comics. I haven't been following this but it seems that they have been on hiatus for a few years now. The only information I've read about Slam Dunk's release being on hold have been on various message boards and from what I hear it doesn't look like the Slam Dunk project is coming back anytime soon.

In any case, this goes to show that English translated manga series need your support now more than ever. It is a lot of work and money picking up the license and distributing the series to vendors and it makes me mad when a great series like Slam Dunk is put on hiatus because no one is supporting it. I'm sure there are a number of other reasons why the series has been discontinued but I feel it's most likely the company that licensed it failed because of lack of support. If you enjoy Slam Dunk, please try to support it. I'm not saying this guarantees the series will be continued by Raijin Comics but perhaps a larger company like Viz or Tokyo Pop will buy the license.

The bottom line is Slam Dunk is one of the best series out there in my opinion and it'd be a shame if it didn't get fully released in English. Support the English release if you can and who knows what will happen.

Manga Scan Information

The manga scans you will find on this site are ones created by fans. They are not scanned versions of the licensed English versions. On the topic of licensed manga series, I do host licensed series unlike many sites that take down manga scans when they get licensed. I feel that showcasing the series actually helps in sales. I usually do not host entire series (usually just the beginning or latter volumes) so people tend to purchase the actual graphic novels when they find out how good they are. As for the fansubbed manga scans, they are created by manga scanlation groups. You can get a full list of groups over at Manga Jouhou. These groups create these fansubs for the fans - I simply distribute them online. Within each series you will certainly see information pertaining to the groups that created the manga scans. Please support the groups by visiting their web site or mIRC channel.
