New Giveaway, New Series: Battle Royale

April/May's giveaway winner has been decided! Congratulations to Linda M. of Ohio, US for winning the 15 Berserk graphic novels by Dark Horse Comics.

Don't worry if you didn't win because a new giveaway for May/June is now in progress. One lucky winner will win One Piece Graphic Novels 1-20 by Viz Media. One Piece is one of the best shonen series out there, and I can't say enough about the great cast of characters and story line in the series. The series is one of my personal favorites and that's why Luffy has been at the top of Spectrum Nexus' homepage for so long!

We also have a new seinen addition to Spectrum Nexus. The series is called Battle Royale and it's a really incredible series. I started reading it this week and quickly finished it because it was so addicting. Here is my token brief description:
Remember reading Lord of the Flies? Battle Royale is Lord of the Flies on crack. Don't believe me? Then read about the 42 classmates that are forced onto an island all armed with weapons. The goal is simple: kill everyone else and be the winner, the last survivor.

When you're done reading Battle Royale, be sure to check out the other manga updates:

Eyeshield 21 Ch 328

Fairy Tail Ch 134

Fullmetal Alchemist Ch 95

Pluto Manga

This week has been pretty busy for Spectrum Nexus. We've been busy working on revamping the High Quality Anime Image Gallery and we've added a thousands of new images for hundreds of anime series. These aren't your typical pics from crappy screen caps or medium quality Google Images. Nope, these are high quality "1600p" images (you've heard of 720p, 1080p, these are 1600p! If you've ever needed quality images and couldn't find it, check our image gallery out.

The newest manga addition to the site is a great seinen series called Pluto. Here is a brief description of the series:
Pluto is another masterpiece by the famous mangaka Naoki Urasawa. If that's not enough to get you reading it, then how about this: Pluto was a joint adventure with the late legend Osamu Tezuka, creator of arguably the most famous manga of all time, Astro Boy. With those said, if you still skip on this series, don't call yourself a fan of Japanese manga.

All 8 volumes of Pluto have been added and if you've enjoyed other great seinen series like 20th Century Boys or Monster well then you should definitely check out Pluto which is created by the same author.

This week's manga scan releases has been a bit slower because there were no shonen chapters released in Japan... but there were still some great additions including:

Beck Volume 34

Claymore Ch 91

Fairy Tail Ch 133

Gunslinger Girl Ch 59

Hajiime no Ippo Ch 851

Nana Ch 82-83

Special A Ch 98-99

The Wallflower Ch 87-91

Yakitate Japan Ch 208-213

New Anime Video: Casshern Sins

A new anime review and video have been added. Casshern Sins episode 1-24 (entire series) has been added. It's a good sci-fi series that is worth a watch! Here is a very brief description of the series:
What if robots could have human emotions and were everything we think they can't be? Could robots fear death just as much as we do? Casshern Sins tells the story of Tetzuya Azuma, known better as Casshern, a cyborg whose goal is to destroy robots that are enslaving mankind.

Here is a brief description:
Battle Angel Alita takes place in the 26th century where mankind has yet again ruined the planet and is living in what feels like a huge scrapyard.
New Giveaway, New Manga

It's been a few weeks since I last wrote, so let me bring y'all up to speed in case you haven't been visiting Spectrum Nexus. First off, congratulations to March's giveaway winner Carol D. of Maryland, USA. She won the Miyazaki DVD prize!

April's giveaway was just announced today. Berserk fans, rejoice because the April/May giveaway will include 15 volumes of Berserk's official releases by Dark Horse Comics. Any 15 volumes with the winner's pick from volumes 1-28 (what has been released so far). I decided on this giveaway because Berserk is still the most popular series on Spectrum Nexus, and the majority should win what they really want, and I feel that is Berserk graphic novels for this month.

The other big news is a brand new shoujo release for this week. I've added BxB Brothers Volumes 1-10. I believe any shoujo fans will really enjoy this series. Here is a brief description:
BxB Brothers is a shoujo series that focuses on fun. Sono, a 16 year old high school girl, transfers to a new school and runs into a group of strange guys known as the BxB Brothers. The brothers goal is simply to have fun. Sono joins them and quickly becomes popular in her new school.

There has also been a ton of manga updates the past week, including:

Many New Yaoi additions

Updates to all your favorite shonen series (Bleach, Fairy Tail, Kekkaishi, Naruto, One Piece)

Claymore Ch 90

Gunslinger Girl Ch 57-58

New Prince of Tennis Ch 1-3

Vagabond Ch 269

Yakitate Japan Vol 22+

Zatch Bell Ch 234

New Comments, Lots of Manga Updates

It's been a busy week over at Spectrum Nexus. We've finally enabled comments after years of putting it off. Now on almost every page there will be a User Comments section for, you guessed it, user comments.

I encourage anyone who has anything to say to post as much as they want. Seeing new comments really does motivate me to work on the site more than I already do, and I think with more active posters we can get a nice active community going. At the very least you could easily get in contact with me by posting comments.

This week has also been filled with lots of new manga. The current manga spotlight right now is on Special A, also known as just S.A.. It's a shoujo series that just had a massive update. All 17 volumes have been posted. Here's a brief description of the series:
Special A is about Hikari Hanazono and her rival Kei Takishima. She's always second to him and nothing infuriates her more! Will she be able to beat him in school and athletics? S.A. is a fun shoujo series I think most shoujo fans will enjoy.

And of course that's not all. Here is the rest of the media updates:

Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger Episode 12

Air Gear Ch 233-235

D Gray Man Vol 16-18

Eden Vol 15, Ch 105-106

Skip Beat! Ch 137

Vagabond Ch 267

1 New Yaoi - Junjou Romantica (It is 10 volumes and arguably the most popular yaoi on the planet!)

Happy Hustle High Manga

Today is the return of new shoujo on Spectrum Nexus! It's been quite some time since I last added a shoujo and that's mostly because I've been busy reading shonen and seinen series. However, I'm reminded why I really enjoy shoujo series with the newest addition, Happy Hustle High! The series spans 5 volumes and all of it has been posted. Here is brief description of the series:
Happy Hustle High is about an assertive girl who falls in love with a passive boy. The only problem is they go to school at all-boy and all-girl schools... until one day where the same-sex schools are integrated! There's much to be happy about in this relatively short but extremely fun shoujo read.

If that's not enough manga for you this weekend be sure to stop by because there's been many new chapter updates to some great series.

Manga Updates:

Gantz Ch 294

Hajime no Ippo Ch 847

Nana Ch 81

The Wallflower Ch 86

Vagabond Ch 266

4 New Yaoi Additions

Blade of the Immortal Anime

March's giveaway item has been decided. One lucky winner will receive 4 classic/legendary/amazing (whatever positive thing you want to call it) Miyazaki films on DVD. The films include: My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, and Spirited Away.

Today's updates include manga updates to the following: Fullmetal Alchemist Ch 93, Nodame Cantabile Ch 127, and Vagabond Ch 264. Also, the Yaoi Section received a few updates the other day.

Now that I got that stuff out of the way, here's what today's newsletter is all about:
Blade of the Immortal Review and Episodes 1-12 - I've added the anime review (which received a very high 4.5 out of 5 score) as well as the anime episodes. Right now on Spectrum Nexus 12 episodes of Blade of the Immortal are up and I say it's a must-see even if you haven't read the manga... scratch that, especially if you haven't seen the anime. Find out why Blade of the Immortal is considered one of the best manga and now anime series out there.

Here's what Spectrum Nexus' anime reviewer had to say about Blade of the Immortal anime series:
Fans of the original manga may not immediately appreciate this series because it doesn't recreate the exact look of the manga's beautiful art work. However, they should give it a chance. The series captures the manga's morally ambiguous vision of the life of a feudal warrior. It raises questions about that life including the nature of good and evil, the nature of violence, and the morality of following a corrupt leader. And even if the animation doesn't match the original art work, it is some of the most beautiful animation put on TV in a while. It is worth watching just for the choreographed, dance-like fight scenes. Hopefully Bee Train will produce more episodes in the future.

New Baki, Ippo, Shamo

Before I get into the great manga additions added, I first want to congratulate February's giveaway winner Melissa from Boston for winning Blade of the Immortal Volumes 1-10! She should receive her prize very soon. March's giveaway will be announced soon.

Now on to the goodies! I usually do the same ol' updates each week with little excitement, but today's update is different. Very different! Baki Son of Ogre Volume 13 and Shamo Volume 25 bave been released! Those 2 are the most action-packed fighting series on Spectrum Nexus, and to get simultaneous volume updates is always a big treat. Shamo, in particular, is must-read material in my opinion. Maybe the story line isn't the deepest, but Shamo never fails to entertain.

There has also been updates to Claymore, Fairy Tail, and Vagabond. Not only that, but there have been 8 New Yaoi Series additions in the past few days! The yaoi section itself also received an update - now it's easier than ever to see important information such as what was recently added and what series have the most volumes.

Finally, new Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger Episode 9 will be released later today. I'm currently encoding it and that usually takes a few hours, but probably by the time you visit it will have been posted.

Fairy Tail

There's been lots of new additions to Spectrum Nexus over the past few weeks. The biggest are the anime video additions which include 2 new series: Bartender (11 episodes) and Vampire Knight (26 episodes). I also added the rest of Hunter X Hunter (3 OVAs). Also, in case you haven't stopped by the website February's giveaway was announced and this month's winner will get his/her choice of Blade of the Immortal or Hot Gimmick graphic novels. A change has been made to the giveaway so that only those who live in the United States or Canada are eligible to win - also, you must reply to our verification email to win (you can't say you lost your email address).

Today Spectrum Nexus has a brand new manga preview called Fairy Tail. It's been a while since I've added a new series, and that's because I hand pick only the best series but I have to read them first to know if they're good. Lately I've been busy/lazy and have been watching a lot more anime than manga which is why this month hasn't seen many new series. With that said, I found myself really enjoying Fairy Tail - I grew up on shonen series and Fairy Tail encompasses lots of traits from the great shonen series out there. We have added all the Fairy Tail available (over 14 volumes) and if you enjoy shonen series like I do, you should definitely check it out!

Here is a brief description of the new series: Fairy Tail is a shonen series that at first glance looks remarkably similar to One Piece, but it's actually created by Hiro Mashima who is famous for his previous series Groove Adventure Rave. As much as I enjoyed his previous work, Fairy Tail surpasses it in every way imaginable. It has all the right pieces that create an epic shonen adventure: a magical fantasy setting, silly over-the-top characters, and top notch fighting scenes. Add in lots of humor, scantily clad women, and lots of twists and turns in the storyline and you have another addictive shonen series you simply must read each week!
